Growing Lavender
in Provence
Lavender has been used by man since the dawn of time. Even the
Romans used it to perfume their baths and scent their linen. Practitioners of
Provencal pharmacopeia were quick to recognize lavender's many qualities,
calling it a "precious plant", that was "good for every
purpose". Over the years lavender became an permanent fixture of gardens
around chateaux and provencal monasteries, and eventually became a staple of
many a "natural medicine cabinet".
